Yep the next week, I´ll be receiving some more new parts for this project, already arrived is this NOS cover for the Bosch lights, I sent it to a plastics company to make some repros, as soon as they arrive I´ll show you how they came out.

Fan Shroud Finished

Hi there, finally finished painting the fan shroud, not perfect but it´s for racing, so it´s going to get dirty anyway :-)

I sent the vector logos to make the stickers with all the correct measures like the original Salzburg Beetles, to the print shop, hope to get them soon; I will post some pictures, of the stickers, when they arrive.

I know I said that I couldn't continue with this project, but the will is bigger than the reason :-)

Today I cleaned the engine bloc and more parts, also painted red the fan shroud but didn´t take pictures, will take some tomorrow.
Can anyone give me sugestions on what paint to use for the engine bloc? Thanks Cheers

Unfortunately I don’t have enough free time available, so I decided not to go forward with this project, so I’ve put the parts for sale.
Maybe one day I´ll be able to do another project like this.

(some of this material is listed on eBay, but can be sold directly)
Since there is no fixed price for this material, please send me an email with your offer.
For anyone interested in the parts that I gathered, here's a list of what I have:

Engine clean up

I finally started to clean up some parts, just haven't had time to work on this project lately...
Started with the removal of all the old oil with powerful degreaser and started to blast the heads, just to see if it didn't damage them. I think it will be ok. The valves, guides and springs will be new and stronger.

The engine block will also be blasted to look better.

Hi,

It´s been a while and nothing has been done on this project...
But finally today I got around the fan shroud and welded the sides with some new metal.
Grinded it and applied some acrylic primer, hopefully during this week I will apply the correct red paint on it.

Today I had a few minutes to work on the Fan Shroud, made some holes and welded some old nuts I had to hold the Bosch Ignition Coil. Now it is in the correct "Salzburg" place :)
Next step, weld the sides and paint it red.

Hi all,
Last night I started to disassemble one of the three engines we are using for our project. This one is an AS41 block that will be all revised and will be our training engine, it will have the original 1600cc, but with small upgrades.

We plan on making another engine that will be an exact copy of the original Salzburg engines, just for fun.

And finally a Type IV engine for the tougher rallies.

Haven't had much time left, so just had time to grind the welds and paint the rest of the engine tin.
Still need to weld the nuts to hold the Bosch Ignition coil and cover the side holes.

Bosch headlights details

This is how we made the interior supports for the extra headlights, an aluminum tube with the long screw inside and self locking nut on the bottom. It’s much better and stiffer like this than just holding on the top part of the bumper.

Hi all,
This is a picture of an original Salzburg engine, I'm copying the mesuraments of the fan shroud to reproduce it.

I started to cut a normal fan shroud and make it as similar as possible to the originl.

This weekend I'll weld it and paint it the correct Red.

Today I went to my garage and finished the extra headlights assembly. Made some longer screws and welded some nuts on top of them, also made some reinforcements on the interior of the bumper with an alloy tube, so it wouldn’t bend when tightening it all together.

Now it’s like it was on the original works cars. Tomorrow I’ll post some more detailed pics of the work done.

Today we went to the garage and made some holes on an old bumper to see how the extra headlights fitted. I think they look pretty nice :-)
We still have to make some extra reinforcements on the bottom of the bumper like in the original cars and start wiring it.

A few months ago I was able to find in Sweden, these stunning and very VERY rare pair of N.O.S Bosch headlights, they were never used and were stored for about 30 years until I bought them.
The shape is incredible and the chrome is as new, still had the original 100w Halogen lights inside!
